Roof replacement in 2001 - Caldwell Roofing - the following additional reinforcement was done per owner:
- gables all reinforced with cross ties for hurricane wind conditions to resist leaning out/in (assorted 2x4,6 and 1x2,4 elements as needed)
- The two large Gables (west and east) secured to wall concrete tie beams below with structural steel 90 degree angle plates every ~ 3ft using tapcons , and lag screws into the Gable bottom plates.
- Garage gable secured at base with steel plates as possible and 2x's to joist below otherwise.
- All trusses w/o structural 90 degree angle plates connecting them to the wall concrete below were secured to concrete using: 16 penny common coated nails to fasten plates/straps to the trusses with nails bent on far side to prevent being pulled out; and tapcons to fasten the plates/straps into the concrete below. Approximately 70% of the truss wall connections were upgraded in this way.
- The few trusses that were unable to be tied directly to concrete were given additional cross ties to securely fastened neighboring trusses.
- Southern corner of 4 westernmost roof trusses connected to each other and western large gable using 2x6's producing one 8 x 8 ft "wind hardened structural element" at SW corner of roof (overhanging corner in pool enclosure).
